LMI Technologies take 3D vision to the next level

Axis NJ is a proud provider of LMI Technologies products.

As the global leader in 3D scanning and inspection, LMI Technologies works to advance quality and productivity with 3D sensor technology. Their award-winning, FactorySmart® laser, snapshot, and line confocal sensors improve the quality and efficiency of factory production by providing fast, accurate, reliable inspection solutions that leverage smart 3D technologies. Unlike contact based measurement or 2D vision, their non-contact solutions add 3D shape information that is critical to achieving 100% quality control.

LMI Technologies designs and manufactures multiple lines of cutting-edge 3D Smart Sensors. These are industrial grade 3D vision sensors that enable your manufacturing processes to reach their full potential. Gocator 3D Smart Sensors are used for inline quality inspection and process enhancement.

The Gocator’s onboard processor puts the “smart” in “smart sensor”, with the ability to perform complex calculations in milliseconds, and communicate pass/fail decisions to your PLC, PC, or Robot over a variety of protocols.

What is the difference/advantage of 3D over 2D vision system?

2D vision often uses a standard digital camera, collecting photo-data from ambient light sources that is reflected off of the target. Contrast-based image analysis is then performed for the sensor to “see” the target and discern what is happening in the real world.

3D vision produces its own light source, either a laser line or a LED projection, and outputs a 3D point cloud representative of the target surface. Unlike 2D vision, 3D vision does not rely on the ambient light in a room to generate its data. This makes it contrast invariant, great for low contrast environments, ambient light, and shadows do not play a limiting role in 3D vision systems.

What makes LMI Technologies’ Gocator special?

LMI takes 3D vision to the next level. Their ever-evolving firmware and software produces highly detailed surface generations and provides a well-designed browser-based user interface for you to employ powerful, but easy to use measurement tools on your part data.

Gocator Smart Sensors come factory calibrated, and require no calibration out of the box, or when the mechanical interface is altered. Gocators communicate with your control system over a variety of protocols, as well as output digital signals simultaneously to hard trigger operations throughout your process, timed perfectly your line speed. LMI’s firmware also supports robot integration with a number of robotics providers, especially Universal Robots Cobots.

Sounds Great, What now?

Test Drive a Virtual Gocator® Sensor; LMI provides a Gocator Emulator both online and on your desktop, allowing you to experience the power of the browser-based interface, no sensor required! You can download this and run through their pre-setup scenarios, showing you the true power of the measurement tools.

Send us your sample part – our team can perform a series of scans, review your application, and produce an application report. We can schedule a virtual meeting and review your scan data, and work on applying measurement tools together on your emulator.

Schedule a demo! We will come to you, run through a demo of the sensor, expose you to the UI, and start scanning your products.
